Animal Health for our Livestock
I’ve been seeing what seems to be a growing trend on social media lately about vaccines in cattle being harmful to humans who consume beef.
I can understand why this has happened. People are very distrusting after what we have been through in the last few years with vaccines, and rightfully so. But it seems now we are going too far the other direction.
Vaccinating these calve is so important. Without them many of these calves would die of pneumonia with these hot days and cool nights. We also have problems in our area with red water, somnus, and lepto, but pneumonia is the big one this time of year. All of these diseases are a slow miserable death, and it is heartbreaking to see these animals suffer like that.
We also have a responsibility to our neighbors cattle, and the other rancher we run in common with to vaccinate our cattle, trich our bulls and keep our herd healthy as to not infect their cattle with anything.
These vaccines have been around for a long time. They are well tested and affective. The vaccines and antibiotic we use have a withdrawal period that is followed before they are processed for meat. There is no evidence that it transfers into the meat you and I are consuming.
We are not willing to sacrifice the health of the animal to indulge someone’s irrational fear of vaccines or antibiotics.
We also aren’t going to give them anything unnecessary or that has not been properly tested. There is so much misinformation about mNRA being required to give to cattle. That is not true!
There is common sense involved here for the health of the animal, and for our bottom line. So we can’t just blanket all vaccines are bad.
If you have questions about what we use and why please ask. I’m happy to give you that information. It is important to know.
