Crispy Sesame Beef

Sesame Beef is one of my favorites! It is what I order almost every time we go out for Chinese. Turns out it isn’t hard to make.

Marinate The Beef-

Slice up in thin pieces against the grain a pound of round or flank steak.

Marinate it for at least an hour in 1 tablespoon water- 2 teaspoons corn starch- 2 teaspoons rice wine (or dry white wine)- 1teaspoon sesame oil- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.

While the meat is marinating make the sauce-

Add to 2/3 cups hot water- 3 tablespoons brown sugar- 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce- 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil- 1/2 teaspoon rice vinegar- 1/2 teaspoon pepper. If you like a little more spice add some red pepper flakes. Set aside

Once the Meat is Marinated-

Mix 1/4 cup cornstarch and 3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds. Heat 1/2 cup oil in a pan. Dredge pieces of beef in cornstarch sesame seed mixture and fry on each side until crispy. Once crispy pull them off the pan and lay out on a pan, don’t stack.

Drain excess oil out of the fying pan and wipe it out with a paper towel. Add back a tablespoon of oil back in and turn heat back on. Add 2 cloves of chopped garlic and let it cook for a few seconds. Then add the sauce you made earlier, stir and bring to a simmer. Add 2 tablespoons chopped green onions. Add 2 tablespoon cornstarch slurry. Add beef, and stir until beef is all coated with sauce. If it gets too thick add a little water to thin. Serve over cooked white rice. So good!
