Dorothy’s Beans

This recipe came from a very nice lady that I grew up knowing, Dorothy Purcell. She lived just up the road from us. She had the most beautiful home, yard, and was an excellent cook. She passed away several years back, and think of her every time I make a pot of these beans. I think of her every time I make these, and that is pretty often. It is one of my go to recipes at branding or any time I have to feed a crowd.

Brown in large cast iron pot -

One pound ground beef (Circle Bar Beef is always the best!)

One pound pork sausage, sometimes I use ground venison instead

big pot of beans

6 slices of bacon cut in half inch pieces

One linguisa of chorizo cut in pieces

One chopped onion

Once browned add -

4- 15oz cans pork & beans

2- 15oz cans kidney beans

2-15oz cans garbanzo beans

2 small cans mushrooms

1 cup ketchup

1 cup brown sugar

3 tablespoons white vinegar

1 tablespoon liquid smoke

salt and pepper to taste

Let simmer for a couple hours. I like to make it the day before and let the flavors really come together. You can also do this in the slow cooker. Such an easy recipe that feed a bunch!
